In line with the school values of Love and Graciousness, CHIJ Kellock worked together with its Parents Support Group (PSG) and Singapore Kindness Movement to launch the first official Kindness Day in the school.
Leading up to Kindness Day, Primary 1 students were encouraged to show kindness to everyone in the school community as well as their family members and getting these people to endorse their Kellock Kindness Passport. Lower primary student volunteers were also recruited to be “Kindness Agents” to pen down words of appreciation for the staff in school, which include cleaners, canteen vendors, admin staff, teachers and school leaders. A special staff engagement session was also conducted during Contact Time, to get teachers to show appreciation towards their colleagues, to show how a simple “Thank You” can brighten up one another’s day.
The highlight of the event was Singa’s special appearance during Kindness Day Special Assembly. Singa encouraged all CHIJ Kellock students to visit the “Kindness Booth” set up by the PSG during recess, to pen down words of appreciation to their friends and staff in school. Staff and students were also given a special Gerbera flower for them to pin on their clothes and school uniform, to symbolise their commitment to be gracious and kind to others. A special “Kindness Photo Booth” was also set up for students to capture happy moments with Singa and showcasing important messages on showing kindness to others.
Kindness and appreciation can never start too young. Pre-schoolers from PCF Radin Mas @ Blk 108 also celebrated Kindness Day SG with a series of activities in May. From a storytelling session on Singa and the Kindness Cubbies, the pre-school also involved parents who baked Kindness Cupcakes to be distributed to the elderly, in appreciation for the pioneers’ contribution to nation building.
